Two Glen Allen Youth Athletic Association all-star baseball teams won state championships recently to advance to their respective Southeast Regional tournaments.

The Glen Allen 11-year-old team – which last year finished third in the Babe Ruth League World Series as 10-year-olds – won the state title in Herndon by sweeping its three games (11-6 against Arlington, 5-0 against Rockville and 3-2 against Williamsburg). The team, by virtue of its performance in the World Series last year, already had an invitation to the 11-year-old World Series, which will begin July 29 in Jensen Beach, Florida.

But first is the Southeast Regional tournament in Stafford, Virginia, which began Wednesday.

The Glen Allen 10-year-old all-star team won the Babe Ruth League state championship on one of its home fields (RF&P Park) July 11, shutting down Williamsburg 16-6 top complete a perfect 4-0 record in tournament play. Glen Allen won its first two games at the original site of the tournament in Amissville, Virginia (10-0 against Keezletown and 12-2 against Winchester) before defeating Stafford 10-1 in Glen Allen, where the tournament moved after field conditions became unplayable at the original site. That put the team into the title game, where it trounced Williamsburg.

Glen Allen next advances to the Southeast Regional, which begins July 20 in Jacksonville Beach, Florida.
