Deep Run High School

Football player Jayson Morgan, a 6-foot-8 tackle/defensive tackle, took a visit to a Division 1 Virginia Military Institute this past weekend. Morgan has been a force on the offensive and defensive line for the Wildcats this season. Morgan provides strong pass protection for his quarterback, plays to the whistle on the run, and creates problems in the backfield on the defensive side of the ball, according to coaches. Defensively, he has a total of 10 tackles for loss this season. He and the Wildcats will play their next game against the Godwin Eagles (2-4) on the road this Friday.

Freeman High School

The Mavericks remained unbeaten on the gridiron after their 49-0 road victory against the Deep Run Wildcats. Glen Allen High School

The Jaguars are now on a two-game football winning streak after their convincing 54-6 victory over Tucker last week. Their night got started when Andrew Milwit threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Adrien Mosley to put them up 7-0 early in the game. On their next possession, Xavier Moss punched in a three-yard rushing touchdowns and then late in the second quarter, Will Noel ran it in from five yards out to extend the lead to 26-0 going into halftime. Next, it was Christian Robinson-Clarke, who returned a punt 50 yards for a touchdown, and shortly thereafter, Moss found the end zone again (this time from seven yards out) to make it 40-0. Glen Allen then recovered a Tucker fumble in the end zone to make it 47-0, and its last score was a 33-yard touchdown reception from Jaylen Davis. The Jags are now 3-3 this season and will face Potomac Senior (2-4) on the road this Friday.

Godwin High School

After starting 2-1, the Godwin Eagles have lost three games straight to some strong opponents in Freeman (6-0), Hanover (6-1) and Glen Allen (3-3). Though the team is in the middle of tough times, quarterback Daniel Viener is on fire this year, with more than 1,300 yards passing and a total of 14 touchdowns. The Eagles will have the opportunity to get things back on track as they will face Deep Run (1-6) this Friday.

Hermitage High School

The Panthers lost in a 28-27 thriller to Lake Taylor last week. Despite the loss, they had a strong showing offensively. They started their night with a one-yard touchdown from Appalachian State commit Jeremiah Coney. The next Panther score came when KaRon Burton found Chase Rivers on a 56-yard touchdown pass to put his team up 14-7 late in the first quarter. Burton would find the end zone again on a 39-yard touchdown run to regain the lead at 20-14 in the third quarter, and then a 38-yard rushing touchdown to go up 27-20 in the fourth quarter. But Lake Taylor scored once more and added a two-point conversation to claim the one-point win. Hermitage is now 4-3 and will face an undefeated Freeman team (6-0) this week.

Henrico High School

Darren Williams, a freshman on the Warriors’ football team, already is receiving attention from Power 5 football programs. He will showcase his talent once again in the Warriors’ next game versus Mechanicsville (0-6) on the road this Friday.

Highland Springs High School

The Springers have looked unbeatable this season, outscoring their opponents 337-33 in their seven wins so far this year. Part of that total was their 48-3 win against Patrick Henry (4-2) last Friday. Caron Ferguson was next with a 44-yard rushing touchdown to make it 14-0, still in the first quarter. Varina High School

The Blue Devils’ football team remains unblemished after a massive 60-12 win over Armstrong on Friday. Tae’mon Brown kicked things off for Varina offensively with a 15-yard rushing touchdown right up the middle. Myles Derricott punched it in for a two-point conversion to make it 8-0 in the middle of the first quarter. Armstrong responded quickly with a kickoff return for a touchdown, making it interesting with a score of 8-6. But minutes later, Derricott ran it in from five yards out to make the score 15-8. After a big stop from the defense, Asaiah Davis returned a punt 60 yards for a touchdown to end the first quarter with the Blue Devils up 21-6. The next Blue Devil to find the end zone was Lamar Booker Jr., who caught a 55-yard touchdown from Derricott.
