The Wildcats softball team is 2-4 after a 23-9  victory over Highland Springs (1-6) last Monday, and a nail biting 4-3 loss to Hanover (6-0) last Wednesday. Against the Springers, Alana Collier had five RBIs, Charlotte Boswell had three RBIs, and Jessica Kolkhorst had two RBIs. Against the Hawks, Gabby Chrapek led the way, going 3 for 4 with a double. Teagan Baulsir was 1 for 3 with a double and two RBIs, and Lily Zehmer was 1 for 3. Deep Run's next matchup will be against Tucker (2-5) April 11.

Freeman High School

Freeman’s baseball squad put on a show against a strong Highland Springs team last Thursday, winning 8-4 in 10 innings. Junior  Lee Sowers was 2 for 5 with a double and a run scored, Miguel Martin was 1 for 5 with a double and two RBIs, as well as one run. Ryan Bland had two RBIs, and Finn Whipple scored two runs and stole five bases. Defensively, Nolan Rayl dominated, putting up a perfect fielding percentage with a total of 13 putouts. The Mavs are now 5-1 on the season and will host Mechanicsville in their next game on Tuesday.

Glen Allen High School

The Jaguars' softball team did it again last Monday, keeping its undefeated season alive with a dominant 11-1 victory over Atlee (4-3). Grace Tharp had a strong day on the mound, allowing just two hits, with seven strikeouts. At the plate, Alyssa Meharg led the way, going 3 for 4 with two runs, three RBIs, two stolen bases, a double and a home run that sealed the deal for the Jags. Tyra Christian also had a big day, going 2 for 3 and scoring two runs, with an RBI and two doubles. Christian also had a strong day defensively, leading the way with seven putouts. Ashton Limbach, Sam Horn and Tharp combined for five hits, two runs, and three RBIs. It’s still early, but so far this team is the clear favorite for a Region 5C and potential Class 5 title this spring. Its 6-0 record places the squad within the top 10 teams in Virginia and fourth among teams in Class 5. Glen Allen's next matchup will be a good one, as it hosts the Hanover Hawks April 11. The Hawks also sit at 6-0 on the season and were handpicked as the 10th best team in the United States according to MaxPreps. Get your popcorn ready!

Godwin High School

The Eagles' baseball team has been putting everyone on notice early on in the season, improving to 5-0 after a dominant 10-0 victory against Hermitage (3-3). Garrett Mason was 2 for 4 with three runs and one RBI, while Justin Tobin was 2 for 4 with a double, a run, an RBI, and four stolen bases to lead Godwin. Defensively, Ryan Tucholka took care of business with six putouts and a perfect fielding percentage. The Eagles will face Maggie Walker (0-3) in their next matchup April 11.

Henrico High School

The Warriors' baseball squad fell to 1-6 on the season after a 17-2 loss against Freeman (5-1) last Wednesday and an 11-2 loss to Patrick Henry (2-5) last Thursday. Despite the losses, there were some strong performances for the Warriors. Against Freeman, Zavion Jackson had a double and two runs. Christian Barrett also had a strong day, going 2 for 3 with an RBI and one stolen base. Against Patrick Henry, Jackson led the way once again with a double. Barrett was 2 for 4 with an RBI, and Maurice Jefferson was 2 for 4 with two stolen bases. Henrico will be back in action April 10, hosting Mechanicsville (3-1).

Hermitage High School

The Panthers' baseball squad fell to 3-3 this week after an 8-5 loss to Freeman (5-1) last Tuesday, and a 10-0 loss to Godwin (5-0) last Thursday. Against the Mavericks, Nick Suitte led the way, going 3 for 4 with two runs, one RBI and two stolen bases. Dro Posada went 2 for 3 with an RBI, and Semaj Adams was 2 for 3 with one run and one double. Brody Davis recorded a perfect fielding percentage with six putouts. Against Godwin, Jacob Kinney was 2 for 4, and Suitte had a stolen base and recorded four putouts. The Panthers will face Highland Springs (6-1) in their next game April 11.

Highland Springs High School

The Springers' baseball team lost its first game of the season by a score of 8-4 in an absolute thriller versus Freeman (5-1) last Thursday, going toe to toe against the defending state champions for 10 innings. The Springers were led by KJ Davis, who went 1 for 4 with an RBI and a double. Defensively, Josh Mahan had a strong performance, posting a perfect fielding percentage with eight putouts. Despite the loss, the squad has already proven to be a threat for any team that has to face it this season and could be in the conversation for a potential regional and state championship run later on this spring.

Tucker High School

The Tigers' baseball team improved to 2-3 on the season after a dominant 11-1 victory over Maggie Walker (3-3). Josh Gillam led the way on the plate, going 2 for 3 with 2 runs, one RBI and one stolen base, and had a perfect fielding day with five putouts. Caleb Wood also went 2 for 3 with a run, two RBIs and a stolen base. Joey Noel, Peyton Hinton, Justin Helberg, Caden Ballum and Gabriel Garcia combined for six runs, seven RBIs and two doubles. The Tigers' next game will be against Varina (2-3).

Varina High School

Varina’s baseball squad is now at 2-3 on the season after a 4-3 victory over Patrick Henry (2-5) last Monday and a 15-1 loss to Hanover (4-0) last Thursday. Against the Patriots, Luke Carnley had a phenomenal night, pitching six innings and recording nine strikeouts, while also hitting a home run. Micheal Wingo Jr. came on in the seventh inning and took care of business, recording two strikeouts late to secure the win for Blue Devils. They will go on the road to face Manchester (3-1-1) this week.
