The Wildcats’ baseball team is now 5-7 on the year after a 7-0 loss to Freeman last Friday. Dylan Wilson and Samuel Bennett led the way offensively, each with one hit. Defensively, Eric Skowysz was the leader, posting 11 putouts on the day. Deep Run had been playing well since its three-game losing streak that spanned from March 22 through April 3, and has won three of its last six games, showing potential to finish the season strong. Its next game will be against Hermitage May 2 at 6 p.m.

Freeman High School

The Mavericks’ baseball team is on a roll as of late, defeating John Marshall 19-1 and Deep Run 7-0 to improve to 10-2 this spring. Against John Marshall, Charles Swartz was electric, going 2 for 4 with a double, three runs and two RBIs. Matt Danforth was perfect from the plate, going 3 for 3 with one run and one RBI, while Cross Kingsbury and Grayson Archibeque each went 2 for 3 with two runs and one RBI. In the game against Deep Run, Lee Sowers led the way, going 2 for 4 with one double, one home run, two runs and two RBIs. Finn Whipple also had a solid performance against the wildcats, going 1 for 2 with one run and one RBI. The Maps’ next game will be against Patrick Henry this Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Glen Allen High School

Glen Allen’s softball team continues to impress this spring. It defeated Tucker 12-0, then defeated Godwin 7-5 last week to improve to 8-1. Against Godwin, it was home runs galore, starting with Sam Horn, who was perfect from the plate going 2 for 2 with one run, two RBIs, one triple and one home run. Tyra Christian went 1 for 3 with one run, one RBI, and one home run. Kaylee Garner went 1 for 3 with two runs, four RBIs and one home run. The Jags’ 8-1 record now has them ranked as the fourth-best team in Virginia Class 5, and 13th among all teams in the state of Virginia. They will host Maggie Walker in their next matchup this Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Godwin High School

The Eagles’ baseball squad is now 11-1 this spring after defeating Atlee 12-2, followed by their first loss of the season to Glen Allen, 5-3. Against Atlee, Luke Smyers had an incredible day on the mound, posting nine strikeouts, allowing just two hits and no runs. Jake Harris was perfect at the plate, where he went 3 for 3 with two doubles, a two-run home run and five RBIs. Caelan Funk also had a big day, going 2 for 3 with one double, a two-run home run and three RBIs. Against Glen Allen, Harris led the eagles once again in hitting, going 1 for 2 with one RBI and one double. Funk went 1 for 3 with one double, Jackson York went 1 for 2 with one run, and Cole Powers went 1 for 2 with one RBI. The Eagles’ next game will be against Hermitage this Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Henrico High School

The Henrico baseball team is now 1-10 on the season following a 16-1 loss to Atlee and a 16-2 loss to Varina last week. In its most recent matchup against the Blue Devils, Henrico’s Darren Williams put together a great day from the plate, going 2 for 2 with one run, one RBI, one triple and two stolen bases. Zavion Jackson went 1 for 3, scoring the second run for the Warriors, and had one stolen base. Aladin Simms had a perfect day of fielding, with six putouts.

Hermitage High School

The Panthers’ baseball team fell to 3-7 on the season after their 15-3 loss to Mechanicsville and a 4-2 loss to Patrick Henry last week. Against Mechanicsville, Hayden Koontz led the way in hitting, going 2 for 2 with one run and one double. Noah Dabney went 1 for 1 with one RBI. Against Patrick Henry, it was Nick Suitte who led the way, going 2 for 4 at the plate with one run, one RBI and one double. Defensively, Brody Davis posted a perfect fielding percentage, recording eight putout. The Panthers will go on the road to face Godwin for their next game this Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Highland Springs High School

The Springers’ baseball squad improved to 9-2 on the season after last week's action. Their first game of the week was against Tucker, which resulted in a 6-5 loss – only their second of the season. Eli Tillman had a strong performance versus the Tigers, going 2 for 3 with one run, one double and two stolen bases. KJ Davis went 1 for 2 with one run and one RBI, while Josh Mahan was perfect from the field with eight putouts. The Springers bounced back by defeating Maggie Walker 4-3 the very next day. Jayy Hamiel led the way from the plate going 2 for 2 with one run, one double, and one stolen base. Henry Hazelgrove went 1 for 1 with one RBI and one stolen base, and Davis went 3 for 4 with one RBI and a stolen base. Defensively, it was Alston Archer who led the way with six putouts.

Tucker High School

The Tigers’ baseball squad improved to 4-8 on the season following a huge 6-5 win over Highland Springs last Wednesday. Justin Helberg led the way for Tucker, going 3 for 5 at the plate with three RBIs. Andrew Choi had two runs and two RBIs, Josh Gilliam went 1 for 3 with one run, one stolen base, and posted a perfect fielding percentage with nine putouts to lead the way defensively.

Varina High School

Varina’s softball team improved to 3-7 on the season after a 10-6 victory over Henrico. Hailey Butler had a monstrous day in all phases of the game versus the Warriors. At the plate, she went 3 for 4 with two runs, two RBIs and one triple. On the mound, she went the distance, striking out 21 and allowing just three hits. Other top performers included Jordan Walker, who went 2 for 4 at the plate with one run, one RBI and one stolen base; and Willow Nash, who had a perfect day fielding with 20 putouts
