Thomas J. Gallagher, the retired president of BBB serving Central Virginia, received the BBB Hall of Fame Award Oct. 4 during the organization’s annual assembly.

During Gallagher's nearly five decades, BBB accomplished a number of firsts in the nationwide system. He worked with businesses to develop the first “extranet” complaint portal to manage the surge in complaints.  As an outgrowth of the extranet, the Richmond BBB became the first to go paperless.

Gallagher retired from the BBB serving Central Virginia in 2017. Among other awards and honors he has earned are the “2017 Richmond Times Dispatch Person of the Year” and “The Award for Excellence in Commitment to the BBB Brand in Honor of Carrie Angell Hurt.”
