Northern Virginia-based FXA Sports this week announced that it is acquiring Be Social Richmond in a deal that will be finalized this fall.

The move will lead to an increase in the number of leagues and sports offered in the Richmond region, according to FXA officials.

FXA was founded in 2007 and has grown to offer more than 18 sports across the Northern Virginia, Charlottesville and Richmond regions. Be Social Richmond was founded in 2010 as a cornhole league but has since grown to offer a variety of activities, including one of the largest adult sand volleyball programs in the Central Virginia area.

"This merger will provide the ultimate player experience for adult sports in the Richmond area, allowing for more sports, new leagues, and a larger adult sports community. Our goal is to get people out of the office, off their phones and TVs, to play the sports they love," said Jeremy Purcell, president of FXA Adult Sports.

"I'm incredibly excited for BSR and FXA to be joining forces – my mission was always to provide a great experience for players to be active and social, at a reasonable cost. Together as FXA Sports RVA, we will be able to do exactly that," said James Schneider, founder of Be Social Richmond.
