The Bryan Parkway Civic Association in Lakeside recently applied to the Virginia Department of Forestry and received a grant for approximately 20 native trees through the Trees for Clean Water program.  On Nov. 13, a number of volunteers helped plant two trees – a scarlet oak in the Wedgewood Triangle and a tulip poplar in the Buckingham Triangle.

Virginia Trees for Clean Water was established to encourage the creation of long-term, sustained canopy cover to improve water quality across the commonwealth. The grant is used to fund tree-planting efforts that raise public awareness of the benefits of trees and their impact on water quality.
