Freeman High School officials July 15 announced the 14-person mascot and nickname advisory committee that will provide input to Principal John Marshall.

The committee is composed of students, alumni, and former staff:

• Andrea Junes Baker, a Freeman alumna who graduated in the ’70s, a faculty member from 2007 to 2018 and the Homecoming Parade Committee Chair;
• Rob Blankenship, a Freeman parent, alumnus from the ’90s and current band director;
• Doug Clements, a ’90s alumnus and current Freeman teacher and coach;
• Suzanne Criswell, the Freeman Director of Student Activities and faculty member;
• Abok Kawaj, a Freeman alumna from the 2010s;
• Mark Lambert, a Freeman alumnus from the ’90s;
• Jake O’Connor, an alumnus from the 2000s, DSF Hall of Fame Inductee and oldest of 5 siblings who attend Freeman;
• Larry Parpart, a current Freeman teacher and coach, Freeman parent from 1986 to 1993, and former head basketball coach from 1978 to 2018;
• Melanie Phipps, a Freeman alumna from the 2000s and current principal of Quioccasin Middle School;
• Billy Reid, a Freeman parent, alumnus from the ’80s and former president of Freeman Athletics Boosters;
• Jim Sangston, a former Freeman teacher, coach, parent and Athletic Director from 1962 to 2009;
• “Student A,” a 12th-grade honor student, athlete and student-leader;
• “Student B,” a 12th-grade honor student, student leader and member of the DSF Equity Ambassadors;
• “Student C,” a 10th grade honor student, athlete and student government leader.

(The school is not naming the three current students.)
