Free fishing day planned at Dorey Park Sept. 28

The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries will host a free fishing day at Dorey Park in Varina Saturday, Sept. 28. The event is part of the agency's free fishing days statewide Sept. 28-29, timed to coincide with National Hunting and Fishing Day. On both days, anyone can fish free in public fresh waters statewide without having to buy a fishing license. All other fishing regulations still apply, and a license is still required to fish in marine areas or saltwater portions of tidal waters.

The event at Dorey Park will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
