Four Mile Creek Trailhead in Varina soon will have restroom facilities and water, according to the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation's Trail Mix newsletter.

Construction on water and sewer infrastructure is slated to begin in spring and last an estimated 90 days. Updates on progress at the popular Henrico turnaround spot for riders out of Richmond (and popular parking spot for riders heading further east) will be posted online at https://www.virginiacapitaltrail.org/trailalerts.

In other cycling news, the Virginia Credit Union Cap2Cap presented by Dominion Energy will return for its 18th year May 12 and 13.  The family-friendly cycling event offers several distance options, and participants enjoy views along the scenic Virginia Capital Trail, a 51.7-mile paved trail stretching from Williamsburg to Richmond.

The event also features a flexible open-start format, virtual option, course support, sample ride itineraries, and on-site packet pick-ups.  Cyclists can customize their ride by selecting their own starting and ending locations, route, and ride day. With distances ranging from a 7–mile family fun ride to 100+ miles, the event can be adapted to any age or fitness level.

New features include a shuttle package for half-century riders, specialty rest stops (featuring Ukrop’s cookies, pickle juice and Breez-In potato wedges), and group ride information with local cycling organizations. Post-ride celebrations will be held at Chickahominy Riverfront Park (Williamsburg, May 12) and Dorey Park in Henrico (May 13). Additional registration perks include an event bib, t-shirt, lunch, beverage tickets, and a Cap2Cap SWAG bag.

Event proceeds support the work of the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation. For registration, vendor information, and event details, visit https://www.virginiacapitaltrail.org/upcomingevents.
