Virginia State Police graduated its 139th class of state troopers Sept. 15.  The 31 new state troopers were presented their diplomas during commencement exercises at the State Police Training Academy in Chesterfield County.

Two of the new graduates (Brandesha Lynn Brown of Cedar Bluff and Steven Jacob Winn of Bucktown, Penn.) will report to individual duty assignments in Henrico County, and three of the new graduates (Phillip Isaiah Bishop of Kingsport, Tenn., Emily Elizabeth Brownell of White Creek, N.Y., and Henry McCord Morrison of South Boston) will be assigned to Hanover/Henrico.

For their final phase of training, each trooper will spend an additional six weeks paired up with a Field Training Officer learning his or her new patrol area.

Since beginning their basic session Feb. 27, the new troopers have received more than 1,300 hours of classroom and field instruction in more than 100 different subjects, including de-escalation techniques, strategies to assist people in mental health crisis, ethics and leadership, fair and impartial policing, constitutional law, emergency medical trauma care, and public and community relations.
