The number of first-time unemployment claims in Henrico dropped slightly during the week of May 2-8, according to the Virginia Employment Commission. A total of 242 county residents filed initial claims that week, down from the 275 who did so the previous week.

Henrico, the sixth-largest locality in the state, had only the 12th-most first-time filers.

The number of people in Henrico filing continuing claims rose by 100 – to 1,932 – during the same week, according to the VEC. That ranked the county seventh in the state.
