First-time unemployment claims dive 33% in Henrico

The number of people who filed first-time unemployment claims in Henrico County during the most recent reporting period dropped by about 33%, according to the Virginia Employment Commission.

Initial filings in Henrico fell to 390 during the week ending Jan. 16, down from 587 the previous week. That ranked Henrico 13th statewide, even though it’s the seventh-largest locality in the state.

The number of Henricoans who filed initial claims previously and were continuing to file weekly claims rose just slightly from 2,050 to 2,098 during the most recent week, according to the VEC. That totaled ranked the county sixth statewide.
