Finalists for BLK RVA Community Awards announced

The awards, sponsored by Wells Fargo, aim to honor businesses, individuals and initiatives that are supporting Black tourism in the Richmond region. The winners of each category will be announced at an awards ceremony Aug. 23 at The Hippodrome Theater in Richmond.

The finalists for the arts and entertainment category include: Afrikana Independent Film Festival, DJ Lonnie B, Elegba Folklore Society, and UnlockingRVA. The culinary enrichment finalists include Neverett Eggleston Jr./Croakers Spot, Mama J's Kitchen, Richmond Black Restaurant Experience, and Soul n' Vinegar.

The history preservation finalists include the Black History Museum & Cultural Center of Virginia, the Elegba Folklore Society, and Hidden In Plain Site. The rising community impact finalists include RVA Explore Tour, RVA Hot Wheelz, and RVA's Black Farmers Market. The rooted community impact finalists include Former Duo CEO Team, Like the Fruit, and The ARTS Community Center.

The public can vote online (by clicking here) to determine the winners of the rising community impact and rooted community impact awards. The individuals, businesses, or organizations with the highest overall score within each category will be declared the winners.

Tickets for the awards ceremony are on sale now through Aug. 16 at the BLK RVA website.

BLK RVA is a community-inspired initiative between Richmond Region Tourism and Black community leaders established to increase tourism and support local businesses by highlighting the food and drink, arts, entertainment, history and community in the Richmond region.
