Federal government to fund installation of 38 EV charging stations throughout Henrico

The new EV ports will be spread out across seven community facilities, including libraries, government centers, and parks and recreation sites, helping to make EV charging more accessible across the county. The funding was made possible through the U.S. Department of Transportation's Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Discretionary Grant Program, which is part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

Electric vehicles have the potential to significantly reduce air pollution and cut carbon emissions, the senators said in a joint statement, but they need to be practical for daily use. The CFI program helps to ensure that people across the country have equal access to EV ports and other alternative fueling sources.

Virginia is set to receive at least $106 million in funding during a five-year period for the construction of new EV stations across the state, with more grants expected to be announced.

In total, $7.5 billion has been earmarked for EV infrastructure across the country, with more grants still to be announced.
