Federal funds to support affordable housing in Henrico

Table of Contents

Virginia recently received $95.5 million in federal funding to help Virginians access affordable housing. The Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded the funding through four grant programs – the Community Development Block Grants program, the HOME Investment Partnerships Program, Emergency Solutions Grants program, and the Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS grant program.

The funds include $1.7 million to Henrico County through the CDBG program, which provides annual grants on a formula basis to states and localities to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, as well as expanding economic opportunities.

Also included in the funding for Henrico County is $887,581 through the HOME Investment Partnerships program, which helps to expand the supply of affordable housing to families by providing grants to states and localities to fund programs that meet local needs and priorities.

Henrico also will receive $147,536 through the ESG program, which awards annual grants to state, local, and private entities to help people find permanent and stable housing after experiencing a housing crisis and/or homelessness. The program also provides funding for outreach and for improving emergency homeless shelters.
