Federal funding coming for several projects in Henrico

Federal funding for several projects in Henrico County is on the way.

As part of the Omnibus Appropriations Agreement for Fiscal Year 2022, $1.5 million will be appropriated for the expansion of the Achievable Dream Academy program in Henrico, which this year expanded from Highland Springs Elementary School to sixth grade. The program will continue to expand each of the next two years to encompass all three years of middle school for participating students.

That money was among Congressman Donald McEachin’s 10 Community Project Funding requests for his Fourth District, which includes the eastern half of Henrico.

“I was proud to support today’s bipartisan omnibus appropriations package to fully fund our federal government and ensure it can continue working for the American people,” said McEachin. “While there was no guarantee that all my requests would be selected for funding, thanks to the hard work of our local leaders, we were successful. Funding for these projects will support underserved areas, foster economic development, and make a meaningful difference for residents across our district.”

Additionally, U.S. Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner secured funds for three projects in the county:

• $5.8 million for the Virginia National Guard to assist with the planning and design for a relocated Virginia National Guard Army Aviation Support Facility in Sandston;

• $3,9 million for Richmond International Airport to conduct a federal inspection service facility renovation project, which will renovate the existing federal inspection service facility (built in 2003) and allow the airport to provide non-stop, scheduled international flights to and from Richmond;

• $1 million for Henrico County to help with the design and construction of a 24-hour center that will provide inpatient detox services.
