FBI and SWAT agents arrested a 33-year-old Richmond man in Newark, New Jersey this week, and he is awaiting extradition to Henrico, where he will face second-degree murder and other charges in connection with the Jan. 1 shooting death of a 34-year-old Henrico woman and the shooting of another woman.

Rajahn Altariq Heath was taken into custody Jan. 8 by FBI Newark’s Violent Crimes Task Force and SWAT agents. Henrico Police had considered him a suspect in the shooting death of 34-year-old Shante M. Jones, who was found dead inside an apartment on Montbrook Lane in the Overlook at Brook Run apartment complex just off Brook Road in Lakeside, and the shooting of another woman in the same apartment.

Heath was arraigned Jan. 9 in Essex County, New Jersey and is being held on an Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution warrant, awaiting extradition to Henrico.

In addition to the murder charge, Heath also faces two charges of using a firearm in the commission of a felony; malicious wounding; and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

“We are grateful for the assistance of FBI Newark and FBI Richmond’s Central Virginia Violent Crimes Task Force in helping locate and apprehend Mr. Heath,” said Henrico Police spokesperson Lt. Amy Kelley. “The cooperation between local and state agencies is crucial to ensuring public safety.”
