The most popular names for newborn boys and girls in the United States have remained the same for the past three years – and the most popular boy’s name actually has topped the charts for five years.

Data from the U.S. Social Security Administration shows that in 2021, Liam was again the most popular name for newborn boys, while Olivia remained the top choice for newborn girls.

Among the top 10 names for boys and girls, only one – Theodore, which ranked 10th for boys – was new win 2021, according to the SSA.

The top 10 boys names last year were:

The top 10 girls names last year were:

The 5 fastest-rising boys names in 2021 were:

  1. Amiri
  2. Eliam
  3. Colter
  4. Ozzy

The 5 fastest-rising girls names were:

  1. Raya
  2. Wrenley
  3. Angelique
  4. Vida
  5. Emberlynn

The SSA began compiling the baby name list in 1997, with names dating back to 1880. At the time of a child’s birth, parents supply the name to the agency when applying for a child’s Social Security card, thus making the agency America’s source for the most popular baby names.
