The Rotary Club of Innsbrook headed a multi-club effort to raise $22,500 to purchase a “new” 12-passenger van to transport students to off-campus school outings and educational opportunities.

The Faison School provides education, therapy and training for children and adults with autism. The new van will be used to transport students to off-campus activities.

It is critical for these students to develop social skills so that they can live independently as adults, according to school officials, and the off-campus outings gives them the opportunity to practice these skills.

Eleven area Rotary clubs worked together to raise the needed funds to purchase the van. In addition to Innsbrook, they are the Goochland County, Short Pump, Fluvanna County, River City (Richmond), Henrico East, Huguenot Trail, Richmond, South Richmond, Brandermill and Powhatan clubs.

Rotarians also purchased 175 books which were given to the school.

Thanks to the combined efforts of the eleven clubs and a grant from The Rotary Foundation, the school was able to purchase a late-model used van.
