Fairfield District Supervisor Frank Thornton

Longtime Fairfield District Supervisor Frank Thornton will seek re-election to the seat this November, he announced.

Thornton first won election to the board in 1995 and has been re-elected to subsequent four-year terms six times. All five seats on the Board of Supervisors will be up for election Nov. 5.

In a statement, Thornton outlined a number of efforts among his priorities if re-elected, including:

• an emphasis on sports tourism in Henrico;
• quality growth in the northeastern portion of the county;
• improved programs for seniors and children;
• lower taxes;
• a focus on civility and dignity in government;
• heritage tourism;
• improved public transportation.

"The 2019 election for supervisor will have a profound impact on the Fairfield District as well as the future of the entire county," he wrote. "As we envision positive solutions at the local level, there will be many challenges that demand nothing less than a type of quality leadership, vision, and skilled representation in the county. Accordingly, the citizens of the Fairfield District must have a supervisor who possesses a vision for the future, a workable set of ideas, the ability to represent all citizens of the district, and the commitment to diligent civic service.

"I will strive to be that type of supervisor."
