Henrico’s Fairfield Area Library has been awarded LEED Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council for its sustainable design and construction and reduced impact on the environment. The designation makes it Henrico's 18th government or school building to earn LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification.

LEED buildings operate in more sustainable ways, saving their owners money over time. The USGBC estimated that between 2015-2018, LEED-certified buildings saved more than $1.2 billion in energy costs, $14.5 million in water costs, $715.3 million in maintenance costs and $54.2 million in waste costs as a result of their higher standards.
