Thirty-one small businesses in the metro Richmond region will earn a share of $125,000 in grant money from Facebook, the company announced Thursday. The funds are part of Facebook’s plan to donate $100 million in cash grants and ad credits to businesses worldwide in the areas in which it has a presence. The company is building a massive data center in Eastern Henrico County, making the Richmond region one of 28 United States regions in which businesses are eligible for the grants.

Facebook will open the application process in the coming weeks. Business owners may stay updated about the process by visiting Facebook.com/grantsforbusiness and entering their e-mail addresses. Businesses with between 2 and 50 employees are eligible to apply.

Facebook also is creating a way for businesses to create digital gift cards and fundraisers. Visit this link to learn how to sign up to offer digital gift cards and this one to create a fundraiser.

Half of all small businesses in the nation have less than 27 days cash buffer on hand, according to a Facebook analysis.
