The Facebook Henrico Data Center awarded eight Facebook Community Action Grants to local nonprofits and schools recently.

• CodeRVA Regional High School – $51,000 to purchase laptops for 250 10th grade students;
• GRASP (Great Aspirations Scholarship Program, Inc.) – $10,000 to support financial aid counseling;
• Girls For A Change – $30,000 to support the creation of an immersion lab and training opportunities for at-risk youth.
• Henrico County Public Library – $17,870 to support the library’s Wi-Fi lending program;
• Henrico Education Foundation – $16,000 to support the Tech for Telehealth program for underserved students and their families;
• Hopecam Inc. – $10,000 to support the purchase of video equipment for children with illnesses;

“When Facebook announced plans a few years ago to build a data center in eastern Henrico County, it also committed to investing in the economic vitality and quality of life of our community,” Varina District Supervisor Tyrone E. Nelson said. “Today, with the presentation of awards from the Facebook Community Action Grants program, we see more evidence of that commitment and of the opportunity Facebook continues to see in Henrico County. We congratulate today’s grant winners, and we applaud their desire to enhance the lives of their fellow residents. We look forward to watching their ideas grow and bear fruit in our community.”

Added Board Chair Dan Schmitt: “Henrico County is excited for the recipients of the Facebook Community Action Grants and for the possibilities their projects represent to harness the power of technology to support our residents and further strengthen our community.”
