Elephant Insurance today announced plans to allow employees the option of continuing to work remotely until the end of the year.

Although the company is planning to reopen its Henrico headquarters sometime after Labor Day to allow for a small number of essential employees, the majority of the workforce will have the option to continue to work from home.

“Thanks to the planning across all departments, we were able to move over 650 employees to working from home eight weeks ago,” said CEO Alberto Schiavon. “The teams are working so well that we have decided to extend the option to the end of the year. We feel this offers everyone the opportunity to be safer at home without affecting our service standards.”

Elephant is hosting daily and weekly activities for employees, such as online trivia and board games, virtual happy hours and art contests. It also includes a daily email from Schiavon, the subject of which ranges from how to make authentic Italian pizza from scratch (he hails from Venice, Italy) to his weekly interviews with individual employees.

“We care about our employees and understand we have to work even harder to stay connected working remotely,” he said.  “Having fun is part of our culture and we don’t want to compromise on that.”

During the coming months, the Elephant office will also go through modifications to allow for the eventual safe return of its workforce.
