The 16 men and women elected to office in Henrico County during last month's elections took their oaths of office Friday during an investiture ceremony at the Henrico Sports and Events Center in Glen Allen.

The newly elected officials include three new members of the Henrico Board of Supervisors (Roscoe Cooper, III of the Fairfield District; Misty Whitehead of the Three Chopt District; and Jody Rogish of the Tuckahoe District) and two new members of the Henrico School Board (Ryan Young of the Fairfield District and Madison Irving of the Three Chopt District).

The board of supervisors will have a 4-1 Democratic majority – the first time in recent memory that the board has had only one Republican.

Though the board at times has voted along party lines, numerous supervisors in years past and present have spoken of a shared desire to act not according to party affiliation but rather to uphold “the Henrico way” of putting the county and its citizens first.

Henrico County Manager John Vithoulkas hinted at that legacy of previous boards during Friday’s ceremony, describing the leaders who have helped the county arrive reach its current spot as a county with impressive financial strength and as a desirable location for residents and businesses alike.

“This leadership has served Henrico well over the years,” Vithoulkas said. “It has prepared us to persevere in challenging times while also giving us the vision to recognize emerging opportunities. It has encouraged us to build a better Henrico, for all of our residents. And it has reminded us that we should never, never be satisfied with our successes or assume that our work is done.

“Today, 16 individuals will take up this mantle of leadership. They will dedicated their time, their energy and their passion to this county and its people,. They are placing themselves on the public stage, and we owe them a debt of gratitude for that service.”
