An 18-year-old Hopewell man is under arrest, facing multiple charges in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred March 22 near Richmond International Airport.
Tony Lamont Roberts was taken into custody by Hopewell Police the same day the crash occurred, according to Henrico Police.
The two-vehicle hit-and-run incident, involving a Toyota Yaris and Cadillac CTS, happened at about 2:12 a.m. at the intersection of Airport Drive and Audubon Drive in Sandston. The adult male driver of the Toyota, identified Monday as 29-year-old Luis Fernando Cac Caal of Sandston, was pronounced dead at the scene. An adult woman, also in the Toyota, was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries and currently is in critical condition, according to police.
The preliminary investigation indicates the Cadillac CTS was involved in a pursuit that originated on I-64 west in New Kent County. The occupants inside the Cadillac ran from the scene following the collision.
Roberts was identified as a person of interest in the hours following the crash and later taken into custody. He faces charges of felony hit-and-run, misdemeanor eluding, obstruction of justice, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a firearm while under a protective order, and possession of an extended magazine.
The New Kent County Sheriff’s Office will handle the pursuit investigation while Henrico Police investigates the crash.
