Five players from the Deep Run HS are heading to the inaugural High School Golf Nationals Invitational Tournament in Orlando, Florida, next week. The 36-hole, stroke-play event, kicking off at Walt Disney World Resort June 27-28, will feature more than 300 of the top boys and girls high school golfers from across the country competing to become America’s first national champions.

The DRHS players invited to the national competition include rising seniors Charlie Hanson, Zach Smith and Ian Walters, as well as juniors Brint Harbison and Trent Sveum. The Deep Run team won the 5A state championship – the fourth consecutive state title for the Wildcats – by 19 strokes in October. The team's coach is Josh Aldrich.
