Domestic violence, fraud and crime prevention among planned Henrico Police seminar topics

In recognition of October as both National Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Crime Prevention Month, Henrico Police Community Services will host a crime prevention seminar series featuring a variety of crime prevention and awareness topics.

On Oct. 7, a seminar will highlight domestic violence prevention from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Eastern Recreation Center. Participants will learn about common tactics, barriers to leaving, police response, firearm laws, resources, and the impact of domestic violence on the community.

Fraud prevention will be the subject of a seminar to be held October 14 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Deep Run Recreation Center. Participants will learn how to identify frauds and scams and how to avoid becoming a victim.

On Oct. 21, a seminar about Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design and personal safety will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Henrico Theater. Participants will learn how proper design and use of built environment can lead to reduction of crime, as well as learning proactive tips to enhance personal safety.

The Oct. 28 seminar will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Henrico Training Center. The topic will be "Civilian Response to Active Shooter" and citizens will learn actions they can take when faced with an active/critical incident, as well as risk factors to help identify and prevent a threat from occurring.
