After 54 years in business, Disco Sports, a locally owned and operated sporting goods store in Henrico's West End, is closing its retail store. A post on the company's Facebook page announced the news Nov. 2.

While the retail store located at 1400 Starling Drive near Regency is closing, the company's team division, which supplies uniforms and equipment to schools, leagues, businesses and travel teams, will continue to operate. According to the company, this decision will allow it to focus on expanding and improving this growing part of the business.

"This change allows us to serve you and our community in the best possible way," the company stated on Facebook. "The local community has always been at the heart of what we do, and it has meant the world to us."

The owners, Lew and Gail Held, expressed their gratitude for the community's loyalty and support over the years. "This store has been our life’s work, and while this chapter is closing, we are excited to keep serving our community in new ways through our team division," they said.

The retail store will be closed Nov. 4-6 as the company prepares for a liquidation sale. Disco Sports will reopen at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7 with everything in the store on sale up to 75% off.
