Richmond International Airport will have its first international route in more than a decade when BermudAir begins twice-weekly service between the airport and Bermuda June 7. Officials from both entities announced the plans Feb. 6.
The new route will operate on Wednesdays and Saturdays using Embraer aircraft. Flights to the island will be about two hours in length.
“Bermuda is now closer than ever for Richmonders, and we’re excited to bring this new level of convenience to the region for leisure and business travelers alike,” said Adam Scott, Founder & CEO at BermudAir. “With deep historical connections between Virginia and Bermuda, travelers will now have a seamless option to access Bermuda’s magnificent pink beaches, iconic crystalline waters, rich culture, and renowned hospitality.”
Flights will offer business and economy class options. BermudAir also offers golf, family, and getaway packages through BermudAir Holidays.
“We enthusiastically welcome BermudAir to Virginia’s Capital Region,” said Perry J. Miller, president and CEO of the Capital Region Airport Commission. “This news – RIC’s first international route in more than a decade – is historic. RIC applauds BermudAir for having the vision to see the demand for convenient nonstop access to a premier international destination like Bermuda. We anticipate this route will be popular with Richmonders and, in turn, invite Bermudians to enjoy Southern hospitality across the Richmond region.”
This new service is part of BermudAir's recent growth strategy, which includes adding two Embraer 190 aircraft to its fleet. The airline currently offers direct flights from 10 East Coast destinations in the United States and Canada and is adding routes to Rhode Island and Montreal along with Richmond as part of its expansion.
