The Central Virginia Transportation Authority recently elected Chesterfield Supervisor Kevin Carroll as its new board chair and Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney as its new vice chair. At its July 15 meeting, the CVTA also chose new board members and committee leadership roles for its 2023 fiscal year.

“I want to express my sincerest thanks and admiration to outgoing chair Frank J. Thornton of the Henrico County Board of Supervisors and outgoing Finance Committee member Carlos Brown of Dominion Energy Services for their dedication of time and talent toward the CVTA mission,” Carroll said. “We and the others who form the authority and its network of support among localities are laser focused on prioritizing investment in projects that enhance transportation for those living and traveling throughout Central Virginia.”

Established by the General Assembly of Virginia in 2020, the Authority directs funding for priority transportation investments across the region. Henrico’s authority member is Thornton, with Tuckahoe District supervisor Pat O’Bannon its designee. Henrico, Richmond and Chesterfield each have four votes on the authority, while Hanover County has three, Goochland, New Kent and Powhatan each have two and Ashland, Charles City County, the Commonwealth Transportation Board, the Virginia Senate, and the Virginia House of Delegates have one apiece.

Hanover County Supervisor W. Canova Peterson was re-appointed elected to the CVTA Finance Committee and selected as committee chair.

New Kent Supervisor Patricia Paige was also elected to the CVTA Finance Committee and elected as vice chair, joining Peterson and members Carroll (Chesterfield), Thornton (Henrico), and Stoney on the committee. Representatives from the three larger communities are standing members of the committee per the Virginia Code.
