COVID-19 claims 5 more Canterbury Rehabilitation residents, raising death toll to 16

The COVID-19 outbreak at the Canterbury Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Henrico’s Far West End has now claimed a total of 16 lives, and 92 of the facility’s residents have tested positive for the virus. Those figures came earlier today from the facility and Henrico Health Department.

The five latest deaths occurred within the past 24 hours, according to the department.

All residents of the facility now have been tested, and 53 of those who are positive have exhibited no symptoms of being sick, according to the facility. The other 39 have experienced mild to severe symptoms. Thirty-five residents tested negative for the virus.

The five new deaths bring the total at the facility to 16.

Families of all residents at the facility were notified about the test results earlier today.

Henrico County Manager John Vithoulkas and Henrico Health Director Danny Avula will provide an update on the situation during a 5 p.m. press conference today.
