On Oct. 2, Maya and James Brewer of Midlothian stopped for a break at the Four Mile Creek Trailhead after the first leg of their journey down the Virginia Capital Trail – and found a party going on.  Virginia Capital Trail Foundation staff members and volunteer trail ambassadors were among those gathered at the park – or stopping by for visits while out riding – to celebrate the Capital Trail's fifth birthday with snacks and drinks.

The Brewers, who were celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary, planned to ride the entire trail from Richmond to Williamsburg for the first time, and to spend the night in Williamsburg.

"We just wanted to do something adventurous [to celebrate]," said Maya Brewer. "Something out-of-the-box."

The VCTF has a full schedule of activities planned for the Trail's fifth birthday, including family scavenger hunts and trail clean-ups. For details, visit virginiacapitaltrail.org.
