Climate Resilient RVA survey designed to assist with comprehensive climate action plan

Table of Contents

Climate Resilient RVA – an organization established under Plan RVA following a $1 million grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in effort to ensure environmental protection in the Richmond-metro area – has launched a survey and recently held virtual community ideation sessions as the next steps in its goal of creating a comprehensive climate action plan.

The group submitted its primary action plan to the EPA in March, highlighting the implementation of factors that could result in a significant decrease in greenhouse gas emissions: electric vehicles, transit, microtransit mobility, efficient buildings, efficient commercial buildings, reducing waste and recycling and port operations.

In that phase, among more than 800 people who shared feedback, Henrico boasted the highest community participation of any jurisdiction, a representative from Climate Resilient RVA told the Henrico Board of Supervisors during a June 11 work session.

The next step in the plan is to gather the opinions of community members to develop the region’s comprehensive climate action plan, which is due to the EPA Aug. 9, 2025. With information from this plan, the EPA will be able to provide the area with funding to address specific climate-related concerns.

A survey that will be open through June 28 aims to gain information about these concerns. The organization also hosted virtual community ideation sessions June 12.
