Henrico Citizen Managing Editor Patty Kruszewski, who won six awards in the Virginia Professional Communicators 2020 communications contest, has won a second place award in the National Federation of Press Women competition.

Kruszewski won the award for her feature story “A Beacon of Light, Laughter," one of two entries that advanced to national competition after winning first place awards in the VPC contest. The story paid tribute to Quy Pham, a beloved Mekong bartender who drowned during a triathlon last year and inspired outpourings of praise and grief. VPC judges praised the story for “painting a beautiful picture."

Henrico resident Joan Tupponce won two NFPW awards, a first place in the personality profile category and a third place in the magazine feature story category.
