Henrico Citizen Managing Editor Patty Kruszewski, who won eight awards and the "Sweepstakes" title in the Virginia Professional Communicators 2021 communications contest, has won two awards in the National Federation of Press Women competition.

Kruszewski won a third-place NFPW award in the green/environmental specialty-articles category for her story about the eco-corridor and walking trail near University of Richmond, one of four entries that advanced to national competition after winning first place awards in the VPC contest.  She also won an honorable mention for her “heartwarming” story about the Henrico Pops Chorus in the specialty articles arts and entertainment category.

Retired Henrico teacher Paulette Whitehurst was also a third-place NFPW winner in the nonfiction book category for her memoir, which Kruszewski profiled in the award-winning Citizen story Learning by Heart.

Henrico resident Joan Tupponce won a third-place award in the personality profile category, and Sunni Brown of the University of Richmond Communications Office won a first place in the category of information for the media.
