Henrico Citizen Education Reporter Anna Bryson was one of 22 reporters nationally selected for the Education Writers Association's 2022 "New to the Beat" program, a mentoring and training program for journalists with less than two years experience covering education. The class was announced Jan. 13.

Bryson and the others were selected through a competitive application process. Each will be matched with an experienced education reporter who will serve as a mentor and coach for the duration of the six-month program. The rookies also will take part in specialized training opportunities.

“This is a stellar cohort of journalists,” said Caroline W. Hendrie, EWA’s executive director. “We’re looking forward to helping them rise to challenges of the vital work of education reporting.”

Bryson, a Report for America corps member, joined the Citizen in June through RFA.
