Celebrate dachshunds at 'Dachtoberfest' Sept. 30

Table of Contents

On Sept. 30, the second annual Dachtoberfest is bringing wiener dog racing to the Richmond Raceway Complex.

After a successful sold-out inaugural event in 2022, the dachshund-themed family fun event returns to a larger venue. Dachtoberfest will feature wiener dog racing, costume contests, raffles, vendors, food trucks, guest speakers, training and agility demonstrations and more. All dogs are welcome at the event.

The event takes place from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Old Dominion Building and is organized by the Dachshund Enlightenment Foundation, a nonprofit focused on sharing information between dachshund owners, breeders, rescues and veterinarians.

Races and costume contests will take place throughout the day and are open to all dachshunds attending the event. Costume contests (free & open to all dogs) include Best Pack/group (human/dog), Dapper Dog (classy stylish male dog), Doggie Diva (fancy, elaborate female dog), Most Creative (original, unique) andMost Whimsical (funny, playful, fanciful).  Dachshund races feature four divisions and cost $5 per dog to race.  Divisions include Little Links (under 2 years old), Bratwursts (between 2 and 8 years old), Senior Schnitzels (9 years old and over) and Special Sausages (special needs dachshunds).

Admission tickets (available at www.definc.org/shop) are $10 in advance until Sept. 28 at 5 p.m., and $15 at the door. Parking is free.
