Cashwell sworn in as new Henrico Schools' superintendent

Amy Cashwell took over as superintendent of Henrico Schools Monday at a swearing-in ceremony at the Henrico County Circuit Court. Cashwell, a longtime administrator and educator with Virginia Beach City Public Schools, succeeds Pat Kinlaw, who retired June 30.

A group of school division leaders and members of the School Board watched as Cashwell was sworn in.

In her previous position as chief academic officer for Virginia Beach Schools’ Department of Teaching and Learning, Cashwell oversaw a number of departments, including those dealing with instruction, instructional technology, student support services, exceptional education, and opportunity and achievement. She joined Virginia Beach Schools in 1998 as a teacher before becoming an assistant principal and principal. She assumed her role as chief academic officer in 2013.

Cashwell is an alumna of Longwood University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies and education. She earned a master’s degree in education administration and supervision from The George Washington University. Cashwell also earned a doctorate from George Washington, in education administration and policy studies. She is a native of Virginia Beach.
