Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden and CarMax recently announced that the “CarMax Free Fourth of July” event will return to the garden this year.

On Sunday, July 4, all guests will be admitted free between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

“This year’s CarMax Free Fourth of July takes on special significance,” said Brian Trader, Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden’s President and CEO. “People are eager for a place to relax, reflect, and reconnect with nature, and we are honored to be able to provide those experiences for our community.”
Guests may simply walk in; no advance reservations are required. Guests should anticipate large crowds.

Fully vaccinated guests do not have to wear a mask indoors or outdoors, but those who are not fully vaccinated are required to wear a mask indoors at all times and outdoors when 6-foot social distancing is not possible.

Lewis Ginter is not hosting the Butterflies LIVE! exhibit this year, and WaterPlay in the Children’s Garden remains closed. Guests on July 4 are invited to wear red, white and blue and decorate strollers and wagons, but activities such as live music and a parade are not part of this year’s festivities.

“CarMax is proud to partner with Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden to offer a free day for our community to celebrate and enjoy this wonderful asset,” said Leslie Parpart, Director of Community Relations at CarMax. “We are excited to support events that enrich our hometown and that allow our associates and the community to experience all that Richmond has to offer.”

Food will be available for purchase at this year’s event, but guests are not permitted to bring food in with them. They may, however, bring water, water bottles, blankets and lawn chairs.

There are no fireworks associated with the event.
