A longstanding Lakeside-area printing plant will shut down by the end of the month.
Cenveo Worldwide Ltd. is shutting down its Cadmus plant on Byrdhill Road near Staples Mill Road. The company alerted state officials in a May 4 letter that it would close the plant by May 31 and lay off all 184 employees there.
In its Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act Notice of Closure, facility officials wrote that the loss of several large customers as a result of the pandemic left it not choice but to close the plant. The sudden nature of the lost customers made it impossible for the company to provide the required 60-day notice of its intent to close, according to the letter.
The location published magazines, journals, direct mail pieces and comic books, among other items.
“One large customer has ceased all work permanently, several publishers have cancelled or delayed their print projects, and nearly all comic production has ceased,” Regional Human Resources Manager Laurie Burger wrote in the letter.
