A special artist’s reception for “Symbiotic Systems,” a new exhibit by local artist Nico Cathcart, will be held Sept. 17 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen. Guests will be able to view the exhibit and meet the artist.

In “Symbiotic Systems,” Cathcart, a muralist, explores the connections between humans and the species that populate the earth alongside them. Exploring the adverse effects of climate change and pollution on pollinators, oceans, and birds, her paintings speak about the need to pay attention to the changes happening in the world around us. In an effort to explore the connections between species, Cathcart’s newest body of work focuses on ocean, river, fields and sky with both paintings and immersive installations. This body of work complements the mural Plastic Tides, commissioned in 2019 in the Center’s parking lot, allowing viewers to have a conversation about how they can contribute to conservation globally.

The exhibit will be on display in The Center’s Gumenick Family Gallery Sept. 17 to Nov. 8. For details, call 261-ARTS or visit artsglenallen.com.
