Mercury Insurance has made available the MercuryGO app, a new usage-based insurance app to help Virginia drivers improve their driving and safety skills, officials announced. Providing skill scores that give drivers real-time feedback, MercuryGO functions as a virtual-driving coach to encourage safe driving behavior. The app will also generate driving skill scores that are closely connected to car crashes – such as excessive speeding and distracted driving.

Mercury insurance policyholders who subscribe to the app will be eligible for a 5% participation discount, with teen drivers getting a 10% discount. The app also includes family sharing options to track who is driving the safest as well as giving parents  access to providing feedback to their teen’s driving and the opportunity to receive a 40% discount during renewal.

“Mercury Insurance wants to leverage technology to make driving safer, and we also want to reward drivers for being cautious behind the wheel,” said Mercury Insurance Director of Product Management Mike Dawdy.“MercuryGO is an intuitive and easy-to-use app that helps you stay safe in the driver’s seat and it puts money back in your bank account.”
