The Children’s Museum of Richmond is the latest organization to receive the Autism Society of Central Virginia’s “Autism Friendly Communities” designation. KidMed was the first for-profit business to pilot the program. Autism Friendly Communities (AFC) is a comprehensive training program about Autism and how local businesses and organizations can best support and include Autistic people and their families. Participants receive expertise, training and resources from local professionals, individuals with Autism, and family members, tailored specifically to their type of business. The ASCV made a number of recommendations to the museum, which include adding directional signage, labels for interactive exhibits, and additional supports such as sunglasses, visors and communication cards in CMoR’s sensory backpacks. A special designation ceremony will be held Friday, Jan. 19 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at CMoR’s Downtown location. Virginia Career Works—Capital Region will host the Winter 2024 Career & Resource Fair on Wednesday, Jan. 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Eastern Henrico Recreation Center. The free event will allow job seekers and resource seekers to meet and connect with more than 50 employers and organizations. Employers and organizations from a wide range of industries will be participating in the event, showcasing their job opportunities and cultures. In addition to the job fair, the event also will offer educational programs, training opportunities and workshops; guidance on resume building and interview techniques; and professional development advice from career coaches and industry experts.
