Virginia-based Lumber Liquidators Flooring Company celebrated the end of the school year by donating $4,500 to Communities In Schools of Richmond to support a June 12 Busch Gardens field trip for 150 eighth-graders from Elko Middle School in Sandston. The Busch Gardens field trip is an annual activity for Elko eighth-graders to celebrate the students’ academic success and their transition to high school. The donation is a component of Lumber Liquidators’ Lay It Forward philanthropic program, which also focuses on providing flooring donations to schools and other organizations in need across the country. Communities In Schools of Richmond supports K-12 students in 39 high-poverty neighborhood schools in Richmond City and Henrico County. Through early interventions and enrichment opportunities, the organization works with the community inside schools to help students succeed.

Midas of Richmond—Short Pump will join Midas locations in Richmond and Colonial Heights in hosting a blood drive from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 6 in an effort to engage the company’s 24,000th blood donor. For more than 15 years, Midas of Richmond has held blood drives every 56 days. Currently, Midas of Richmond has helped to collect 23,927 units of blood; the goal for this drive is to engage 270 eligible blood donors. All presenting donors will receive a free oil change, courtesy of Midas. Summer presents a challenging time for blood collections as regular donors are enjoying vacations, sponsors are less likely to host a blood drive, and high school and colleges students are off for summer break. Donors of all blood types are needed to ensure lifesaving blood is available for patients in critical need. Visit RedCrossBlood.org (sponsor code MIDAS) or call 1-800-RED CROSS to make an appointment. Midas of Richmond—Short Pump is located at 11463 W. Broad Street.
