Brief closures planned on Airport Drive at I-64 May 6

Table of Contents

Drivers should expect brief overnight closures in both directions of Airport Drive at the I-64 interchange in Eastern Henrico beginning May 6 at 6 p.m.

Virginia Department of Transportation crews will implement single-lane closures initially, with 15- minute traffic stops beginning at 8 p.m. to allow crews to place new bridge units on I-64. All traffic stoppages will be complete before morning rush on Thursday, May 7.

The left lane of I-64 west will also be closed during the work. Airport and local traffic should expect delays in the area Wednesday night. In the event of inclement weather on May 6, the work will be rescheduled for the same time May 7.

The work is part of an ongoing project to replace both I-64 bridges over Airport Drive and improve traffic operations at the interchange. The new bridge units will be placed between the two existing I-64 bridges, and traffic will eventually be redirected to the structure to allow crews to demolish and replace the existing bridges.

Weather permitting, the project is expected to be complete in late 2022.
