The Virginia Department of Transportation will install temporary signals at each end of the Skipwith Road bridge over I-64 in Henrico County as part of upcoming bridge rehabilitations beginning Tuesday, April 11.

Two-way traffic flow will be allowed by alternating the direction of the traffic via temporary signals on the approaches to the bridge. The existing traffic signals at the intersection of Skipwith Road and Anoka Road will be used on the south end of the bridge and a temporary signal will be placed on the north end. A barrier wall will be placed in the middle of the existing bridge to delineate traffic during the rehabilitation work.

The projects will rehabilitate the Skipwith Road and Pemberton Road bridges to extend their service lives.

The cost to replace the Skipwith bridge is estimated to be $8.4 million, while the Pemberton Bridge replacement is estimated at $7 million. Construction work is expected to last until the fall of 2024, according to VDOT officials.

During the construction efforts on Pemberton Road, the road’s traffic will be detoured to Gaskins Road.
