The Heart of Virginia Council of the Boy Scouts of America will move its headquarters from Richmond’s Near West End to a new spot in Henrico near Lakeside in April.
The organization purchased a building at 8090 Villa Park Drive for $2.875 million. It expects to begin renovations at the site, formerly occupied by engineering firm Draper Aden, in January. (Draper Aden relocated its local offices to a nearby site on Wilmer Avenue.)
The council will vacate its existing headquarters at 4015 Fitzhugh Avenue in Richmond.
The new location contains more than 26,000 square feet – twice as large as the existing building – on about 5 acres. It will enable the organization to serve as a retail outlet, training center, and scouting corporate headquarters all in one.
In 2019, the organization served 11,107 members ranging from five to 20 years old.
“It was a sincere pleasure being able to work with Boy Scouts on its hunt for a new headquarters,” said Rebecca Barricklow, assistant vice president of Colliers International, which assisted the organization with the purchase. “It was challenging to find a building that met all its requirements but once we came across this property, we knew it was for them. The building will be transformed into a state-of-the-art facility that will have an incredible impact on its future as an organization and its Virginia community.”
