Both 2024 Richmond Raceway Cup Series events will be under the lights

Table of Contents

Richmond Raceway will retain both of its NASCAR Cup Series events in 2024 – and both will take place under the lights, but with a slight twist.

Richmond’s first Cup Series event, the Toyota Owners 400 race, will take place on Easter Sunday, March 31, at 7 p.m. The second, the 2024 Cook Out 400, will be held Sunday, Aug. 11, at 6 p.m. The Cup Series is the highest level of NASCAR competition.

For years, Richmond Raceway was known for its Saturday night races under the lights before NASCAR began experimenting with some afternoon times at the track in recent years. Moving both Cup Series races to Sunday nights represents another shift – one likely designed to attract better television audiences.

Richmond is one of just 11 tracks that will host multiple Cup Series races in 2024.

Atlanta Motor Speedway will become the site of the first race of the Round of 16 NASCAR playoffs, and the season will end Nov. 10 at Phoenix Raceway. The series will host its all-star race may 19 at historic North Wilkesboro Speedway in North Carolina.

The March race weekend at Richmond also will include a March 30 NASCAR XFinity Series race at 1:30 p.m., the track’s online XFinity Series race. The series is NASCAR’s secondary series of racing.

In August, Richmond also will host a Craftsman Truck Series race Aug. 10 at 7:30 p.m., its only such event of the year.
